This tutorial is written for PhotoImpact 7.

Have you noticed those personalized icons that are showing up when you bookmark a web site and add it to your favorites? Just finished a totally awesome website? Take the design one step further and add a favorites icon for instant recognition of your site.

Let's make our own. Open a new canvas 20 x 20 pixels in a color you like. Go to view and zoom it up to a comfortable viewing size.

Go to your Easy Palette-Button Gallery. Right click on RO 3. Modify Properties and Apply. Change the width in all the boxes to 1.
Decorate your icon any way that is pleasing to you. You can paint on it, add a path shape or use a stamp. I added a path 3D ball in the example. Just keep it simple.
Name it favicon and save as an .ico file.
If you are doing your page in PhotoImpact go to the Web Menu-Web Properties. Click on the General tab. Near the bottom you will find a place to include a favorites icon for your page. Simply check the box and browse to where the .ico file is saved. Click OK.

If you want to place a favorites icon in an already existing page, add this code to your webpage's source code in the head.

It will look like this.
If you want the favicon.ico to be located in a different folder, just add the correct path. Plus, you can use this if you would like individual pages to have their own icons. Delete your old bookmarks for this site. Empty your temporary internet files. Restart your computer. Surf to your newly uploaded site, bookmark it and your new favorites icon will display.
