This tutorial is written for PhotoImpact 7.

Open a new canvas approximately 400 x 400 pixels with a white background. Click on the Path drawing tool. Select The circle shape, Color #FFEC00. In the path panel box set the Border to 53 and the Depth to 11. Drag out a circle for the head.

Select the path edit tool and toggle. Click on the add edit point [+] and add two points to the upper left side. Click back on the edit pick point and pull one of the points up to make a tuft of feathers. Toggle back out of edit path mode.
Select the 3D path tool again and draw another circle under the head. Make it larger. This will be the body.
Again select the path edit tool and toggle. Click on the add edit point and add two points to the upper left side. Click back to the edit pick point tool and pull one of the points up to make a tail. Toggle back.
Select the head and click the Z-Merge tool. Do the same for the body. Adjust the number in the box to give the effect that the head and body are joined. Your number will likely be different than mine. Experiment to get the desired look.

Select the 3D path tool, Custom shape. Choose Leaf #7. Set border to 17 and the depth to 3. Hold the Alt key and drag out the shape for your wing. Now click on the transform tool, rotate freely and move the wing into place.

Now click the Z-Merge with the wing selected and experiment with the numbers to get a look of the wing disappearing into the body. Duplicate this wing. Place it on the other side of the body and use the transform tool to rotate into position. You might need to change the number of the Z-Merge for this wing.

With the 3D Path tool make a white eclipse for the eye. Then on top of it make a black eclipse. Merge them together and click the Paintbrush, black, and choose effects, Paint on edges to outline the eye. Click back to the 3D path tool, choose the Freehand draw, Color #FBA504, Border 30, Depth 3, Accuracy 10 and draw the beak.

Switch to the 3D line tool, Freehand and draw the leg and three toes for the feet. Merge together and duplicate for the other leg. Add a yellow 3D eclipse at the top and place behind the body. I added some eyelashes with the paintbrush in mode. Your chick is finished!

There is chocolate variation of this chick below.
