Fancy Lace for Your Frames PhotoImpact 6.0
|
If you need an image to use for this tutorial,
you may use this one. I used a photo from the Photo Impact disk to
which I applied creative painting and magic light.
Open a new image 300 X 300 pixels.

|
Click
on the path tool, and in the attribute toolbar, under shape, click on custom
shape. Choose round edges 2. Click on material in the attributes toolbar,
and click on the border/depth tab. Set the border to 5. Click
on the bevel tab and click on 3d pipe.
Draw
your shape on the canvas. |

|
Open
the graphic you wish to use, and place the 3d pipe shape on it. Position
it over the part of the graphic you wish to include in your frame. Right
click on the shape and click on duplicate. Position it over the first shape
as closely as possible. In the attribute toolbar for the path tool, click
the down arrow beside "mode". Click on selection.
|
 |
Right
click and convert to object. This "cuts out" a duplicate of the part of
the image you want to frame that has the same shape as you are using.
With
your new object selected, click on web, frame designer. |
 |
In the
down arrow beside style, click on Magic frame. The magic frames are unique
of all the frames in the frame designer, in that they go only around the
edges of a shape, and not in a rectangular shape.
They
also work with any shape, not only the ones in the shape library. |

|
Beside
effect, click on glassy. Outer edge should be 10, and inner edge 5. Make
sure there is a check mark beside border, and One color. Click on the color
box beside one color and change the color to white.
under
options, the reflection should be 2, and the fuzziness 7. Click ok. |

|
Click
again on web, frame designer, and this time change the effect to sobel.
Change the outer edge to 20, and the inner edge to 20.
Change
the border color to white. Beside options, Noise, change the 500 to 400.
Click
in the box beside smudge to remove the smudge. Click ok.
Note:
The noise setting determines how lacy your image will be. The lower the
number the more noise and the higher the number the less noise. |
 |
Click
again on web, frame designer. The sobel effect should still be active.
change the outer edge to 5 and the inner edge to 0.
Leave
the noise at 400 and the check mark should still be removed from Smudge. |
 |
This
time, place a dot beside gradient. click on the gradient box, and click
on edit to allow you to choose your gradient. Choose ramp OO8, the gold
one.
|
 |
Click
ok. In the magic gradient box that is still open, under mode, select mode
19. Change the frequency to 1.78, and the amplitude to -0.13. Click ok.
Back
in the frame designer box, click ok to close the box and apply the changes. |
 |
Click
again on web, frame designer. The sobel effect should still be active.
Leave all options as they are, except change the color back to white, and
put the check mark back in the box beside smudge. Smudge size should be
10 and the smudge no should be 5.
Click
ok to apply the changes. |

|
Line
up the frame with the image, and select both the frame and the image by
holding down the control key while clicking on each one. Right click and
click again on combine as a single object.
After
placing the image on your background, you may want to add contrast to the
image to make the white lace stand out more. I did with this image.
You
can use this method with different colors and shapes also. |
