My Chair Tutorial
I've been asked to write a tutorial for this chair that I
made with PhotoImpact5. This is the first tutorial that I have tried to
write, so please bear with me. While making this chair, we will be
using the "Transform Tool" quite a bit. I think that once you become
comfortable using this tool, you'll find many ways to use it. There are
5 different shapes that make up the parts of this chair.
We'll need a fill to use as the fabric of the chair, this is the tile that I used for the fill. Brown Damask. If you want, save it to your desktop, we will be using it soon.
I like to work in a big surface, so open a new canvas 500x400. Make sure you choose "RGB True Color".
Click on the Path Drawing Tool.
In "Shape", choose the rectangle with the rounded edges.
In "Mode" box, choose "3D Trim".
Now click on the "Material" icon.
NOTE: Please save your work as you go. Click on "File/Save as" and save
as an .ufo file. Saving in this manner will allow you to make any
changes as we follow this tutorial. Save, Save, Save!!! I don't want
you to lose any of the things that we will be making during this
tutorial. thank you.
 | Under
the "Color/Texture" tab, click on "File" and find the tile that you
downloaded earlier(or use one of your own tiles). Click on "open". Then
click on "Options/Fill Types", make sure the "Tile the texture" is
chosen, then click on "OK".
Now we're ready to draw our first shape, which will be one of the arms of the chair.
|

 | Draw a shape that
looks similar this first shape. It doesn't have to be exact. With this
shape still selected(the dotted lines encircling the shape)click on the
"Transform Tool". and choose the "Rotate Freely" option. Place your curser on a corner and slightly rotate the shape to look like the next shape. |

 | Your first arm of the chair should look something like this now.
With it still selected, right click and "Duplicate" it once, layer it on the first one so that it looks like this. |

| Now we're going to draw the shape that will be the back cushion, use the same settings as you did with the arm.
After you have drawn it, click on the "Transform Tool/Rotate Freely" option.
Rotate the shape just a little bit, don't think it has to be exact(once all the parts are made we'll "fine-tune" the cushions)
After you have rotated it slightly, then duplicate it and layer the new one on top of the one you just made.
Now you should have one arm and the back cushion, Try to arrange it similarly to how it is shown here. |
On the next page, we'll make the other 3 shapes for the chair.

I have a Tutorial List, of other tutorials that I have written for PhotoImpact.
