Glass Bottle Tutorial

This PhotoImpact tutorial will be using
the Transform Tool to change our shapes slightly and the Retouch Tools
to shade our shapes for a more realistic appearance. There is
nothing to download. Please remember that if your shapes don't
come out looking exactly like mine, that's fine. That's one of
the great things about using a program like this, no two are
alike. Everyone's will be unique!
Open a new canvas 300x400. You can make the color of the
canvas any color that you like. The color of this jar is up to
you also, I have made mine in a tan color. Remember to save! I
can't stress that too often.
Let's get goin'....

|
Click on the Path Drawing Tool choose a "Rounded Rectangle" shape, Trim
Mode, Border=44 Depth=30. Make the shape size similar to the one
that I made to the left. While that shape is still selected,
click on the Tranform Tool and select the prespective option.
Drag the top right corner slightly to the center as shown.
Now click on the Resize option
Drag the bottom center up untill your shape looks like mine.
|
 |
Click on the Path Drawing Tool/Custom Shapes/Pattern Shapes/Round Shape
1, Trim Mode still, Border=51 Depth=30. Draw your shape so it is
approximately the same size as mine. |

|
While this shape is still selected, click on Objects/Arrange/Send to
back. Select both shapes and Right click/Combine as single
object.
Now click on the "Blur" tool . Drag the Blur tool over the area where they two shapes meet, ONCE. |
 |
Change the Blur Tool to the Burn Tool Drag
the Burn Tool over the area like shown. I did this several times.
If it seems too dark to you, just hit the "Undo" button. |

 |
Using the Ellipse shape of the Path Drawing Tool,Trim Mode, B=52 D=30,
we'll draw an ellipse that should look similar to the one shown to the
left.
Now while it is still selected, Position it so that it looks like the
image shown. Now go to Objects/Arrange/Send to back. Now
combine these objects. Now would be a good time to "Save as", if
you have not done so yet.
|

| We'll make the little shape that is the lip of the neck of
this jar. Go to the Path Drawing Tool/Custom Shapes/Pattern
Shapes/Plaque #5(Which just happens to be one of the "Best" and most
useful shapes in the whole bunch, just my opinion). Border=14
Depth=30, Trim Mode. Once you have made the shape, go to
Edit/Rotate/Flip/Rotate 180. Place this shape on the top of the neck as
shown. |

|
Changing our shape to the Ellipse shape, B=14 D=30, Trim Mode. I
made the shape a grey color, but you may want to pick a different color
depending on what color you started out using. Place the ellipse
shape on top of the "lip" shape.
Now choose the Rectangle shape, B=14 D=30, Trim Mode. Draw a
small rectangle and place it in the middle of the ellipse we just made.
Back to the Ellipse shape, same settings. Draw a long oval as
shown. Place it on top of the rectangle that we just made.
Select all three grey shapes, right click and combine as a single
object.
|
 | While we still have this
shape selected, click on the Blur tool. Drag it over the object
where the ellipse and the small rectangle meet, ONCE.
|

| Now to make the metal accent pieces. Path Drawing
Tool/Custom Shapes/Pattern Shapes/Plaque #5, 3D Round Mode,B=6
D=30. Material Gallery/Metallic/Gold,Copper,or Silver.
Rotate the the shape 180. If it is too bright, take the Burn Tool
and use it to darken the look of the metal. To use the Burn Tool
on a shape, the shape must be converted to an image first. Go to
Objects/Convert Object Type/From Path to Image. |

|
Choose Transform Tool/Resize option. Drag
the side out, to make the shape long enough to go from side to
side. Now make the shape thinner from top to bottom as shown in
the image to the left. Use the Burn Tool on the outer edges of
this shape. This will give it a more rounded look.
Now duplicate that shape, once. Place the duplicate behind the bottom shape of the glass jar, as shown in picture.
Take the Blur Tool and use it on the bottom of the glass shape to get a more rounded appearance.
|

|
Custom Shape again, Triangle B=5 D=30. Draw a small triangle
similar to the one that I have made and duplicate it. Rotate the
second one, 180. Place the top one behind the bottom one.
Combine as single object. Place this shape behind the metal rim
as shown.
This part is optional, only because I found that it really doesn't show
that much, but if you wish, now take the Blur Tool and slightly drag it
over the area where the two triangles meet.
|

| Our final steps. Ellipse shape, 3D Round Mode B=30
D=30.
Once you have made one shape, duplicate it. Click on the first
one to select it and change the Mode to 3D Pipe. Take the Ellipse
shape and place it on top of the Pipe shape like shown so that it looks
like the front of the base has a "lip" on it. Combine these
shapes into a single object and arrange behind the triangle
piece. Make a very small ellipse and place it on top of the base
as shown to the left. Combine "ALL" shapes.
Hey!!! We're all done!!!
